Play/guardia di 193cm, Smith nasce a Freeport il 24 novembre 1994. Statunitense naturalizzato croato, Smith cresce prima alla Brazosport High School e poi all’University of New Hampshire. Nel 2017 inizia la sua carriera da professionista con la canotta dell’Heidelberg. Resta in Germania, dove dal 2019 al 2021 si accasa al Ludwigsburg, squadra con la quale si approccia definitivamente al panorama cestistico europeo e dove vince il premio di MVP della Bundesliga nella stagione 2020/2021. Nelle ultime due stagioni la Germania è rimasta la sua seconda casa: con la canotta dell’Alba Berlino vince un Campionato e una Coppa di Germania, oltre a disputare l’Eurolega: in Bundesliga, nella stagione appena conclusa, 13 punti di media e 3 assist a partita e anche in Eurolega ha raggiunto la doppia cifra di media, 12 punti e 2.5 assist.
Con la Croazia Jaleen Smith ha disputato sicuramente da protagonista gli ultimi Europei con 12 punti di media e quasi 5 assist, dimostrandosi anche un creatore per i compagni oltre che un finalizzatore.
